Living Kidney Donation

Why is living kidney donation so important? Living kidney donation is important for many reasons. There are 92,000 people waiting for a kidney on the deceased donor transplant list. The average wait time on the deceased donor list is 3-5 years. That’s right years! By getting a kidney from a living donor, that wait time is cut drastically down! The longer I wait, the sicker I’ll get. A kidney from a living donor typically lasts longer than one from a deceased donor. Lastly, getting a living donor kidney before I get so sick I require dialysis to survive which is physically and emotionally grueling.
